  • Summary: The albums document the travels of Paul Fleury, French industrialist, to Switzerland, Egypt, India, Java, China, Indo-China, and South America between 1896 and 1918.
    Consists of commercially produced images, original photographs, and clippings, combined with assorted tipped-in itineraries, local maps, and textual material. Subject matter includes architecture, transportation facilities, landscapes (including volcanoes), indigenous peoples and local customs, and Fleury himself, his family, and their native area in northern France.
    Noteworthy albums are nos. 10 through 17, particularly those from the Far East and South America. For example, there are numerous photos of the Angkor Wat temple complex at the site of Cambodia's ancient capital. Many of the South American photos are by Moody, a Buenos Aires photographer who accompanied the Fleury group over the Andes from Paraguay to Chile. City views include Cairo, Singapore, Penang, Bangkok, Batavia (Java), Haiphong, Shanghai, Nagasaki, Yokohama, Ascuncíon, Valparaiso, and Santiago.
