  • Summary: The liber amicorum of Johann Heinrich Gruber, a merchant in Nuremberg who owned a factory in Lyon, reflects Gruber's connections in Nuremberg, Augsburg, St. Gall, Lyon and other cities. There are entries by the Count Palatine August of Wittelsbach (1582-1632), Johann Friedrich (1584-1635), and Johann Georg, Marcgrave of Brandenburg (1577-1624), along with their devices.
    Representations in watercolor and gold feature allegories, genre scenes, such as a couple in a Venetian gondola, and monuments, including the Maison Carrée in Nîmes, the Pont du Gard, and the Castello Sant'Angelo in Rome. The scene of the night time sack of Troy and other depictions are attributed to the miniature painter Tobias Bernhard (Bernhart), who was active in Munich and Augsburg.
