  • Summary: Half of this assembled collection of photographs of watches is devoted to 17th-18th century French pieces; English and Swiss watches are also represented, as well as watches from other European countries. The watch cases depicted are primarily oval or round, but other shapes are also seen (cross, octagon, basket, etc.). Covers are often mounted with pearls and enameled with miniature portraits, genre scenes, or flowers; there are also some examples with carved, engraved, or etched decoration. Half of the photographs were acquired from New York dealer French & Company; the rest were acquired from other dealers, auction houses, and a few European museums.
