  • Summary: This assembled collection of photographs illustrates mostly European keyboard, string, and wind instruments dating from the 17th to the early 20th centuries. The countries best represented are France, Italy, England, and Germany. Some 70% of the photographs were acquired from dealers (including French & Company, New York), auction houses, and commercial photographers; the rest were obtained from museums, in particular the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
