  • Notes: The Duveen Brothers was a firm of influential art dealers from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century based in London, Paris, and New York. With Joseph Duveen (1869-1939) at the helm and the assistance of art experts, most notably Bernard Berenson (1865-1959), Duveen Brothers played a prominent role in the transfer of old master paintings, antique furnishings, and objets d'art from Europe to the United States.
The large, hard-cover albums of fabric-backed pages, with one large mounted photograph per page, illustrate the collections of some of Duveen's most important clients, including Jules S. Bache, Robert H. and Evelyn Benson and Andrew W. Mellon. The volumes also include views of the clients' estates, such as Cà d'Zan, John Ringling's winter home in Sarasota, Florida, Henry E. Huntington's residence in San Marino, California, and Edward T. Stotesbury's Whitemarsh Hall in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania.
